OK. Consider this a case of severe political whiplash. For weeks and weeks, all we’ve been hearing from the Sanders camp (and from Bernie himself) is that the process is rigged against him. Now, in an interview with CBS’s Face The Nation, Bernie says the process is “dumb, but not rigged.”
On May 2, Bernie said this:
“When we talk about a rigged system, it’s also important to understand how the Democratic Convention works. We have won, at this point, 45 percent of pledged delegates, but we have only earned 7 percent of superdelegates.”
At BNR, we’ve rejected the drumbeat from Hillary’s detractors that her victories are anything other than fair and square:
Suggesting the system is “rigged” in Hillary’s favor is a disgraceful tactic designed to steal a ground-breaking achievement from her and her supporters. It’s something Donald Trump has been doing. Regrettably, he’s not alone. The Sanders campaign has worked methodically to convince Bernie’s supporters that Hillary is stealing the nomination.
Now, after weeks of moaning and groaning that the system is rigged against Bernie, we get this confession from him:
“I wouldn’t use the word ‘rigged’ because we knew what the rules were.”
