Bernie Sanders appeared on CNN’s State of the Union and continued to take shots at Hillary. There is simply no excuse for that.
At BNR, we have lauded the discipline and integrity of Hillary Clinton, President Obama, Vice President Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders who have worked to ensure unity in the face of a radical GOP and an unhinged Donald Trump.
We have welcomed Bernie’s voters with open arms and open hearts, excited about the prospect of working with them to elect Hillary in November.
But we have also been watching Bernie with increasing consternation as he refuses to play a productive role in the general election campaign.
At this stage of the race, fashioning himself as the savior of the Democratic Party and asserting that Hillary has to “make it clear which side she’s on” (which he just did on CNN) is extremely unhelpful, to say the least.
Bernie has squandered a considerable amount of credibility with his post-primary intransigence. He isn’t really hurting Hillary with this behavior — she’s dealt with much worse — he’s ruining his own legacy. And more importantly: he’s doing a big disservice to his supporters.
