Donald Trump’s appearance in Ashburn, Virginia, was quite a spectacle. Sexism, Putin, joking about an unearned Purple Heart, and kicking out a baby from the event. And these are just the lowlights from an event featuring a typical montage of bigotry, bullying, self-aggrandizement, and bombast masquerading as policy.

Donald was really on a roll today. He went after Hillary, asking his audience if she “looks” presidential.

Which inspired one of the most depressing callbacks I’ve ever seen:

Donald also criticized Hillary for not being besties with Vladimir Putin:

And he told a cool story about being given a Purple Heart by a supporter, recounting how he asked if it were fake and then saying, “I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.”

But the coup de grace was his responding to the sound of a crying baby by exclaiming he loves babies, then, a minute later, saying: “Actually, I was only kidding. You can get the baby out of here. …I think she really believed me that I love having a baby crying while I’m speaking.”

There is, seemingly, nothing so egregiously awful that Donald can do to make the leadership of his party repudiate him. I read over and over variations on, “Every day, it’s something new,” but it’s not one thing every day – it’s an entire litany of objectionable commentary and behavior.

What about any of this warrants support from ostensibly serious people who purport to care about their country?

Nothing that I can see.
