John Kasich won praise earlier this week for criticizing an anti-gay law in Mississippi. But on Sunday, the GOP presidential hopeful had a different message for opponents of such discrimination: “Can you just for a second get over it?”

When asked on CNN whether he’d stop states from passing these kinds of laws, Kasich responded as follows:

KASICH: And what I like to say is, just relax. If you don’t like what somebody’s doing pray for them, and if you feel as though somebody is doing something wrong against you, can you just for a second get over it? You know?

By way of context, ABC News reported that “in much of Ohio, the state where he serves as governor, businesses are legally permitted to refuse service to gay or transgender people. While some cities and counties in Ohio prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, no similar statewide protection exists there.”
